This is the first printed cookbook I've purchased in a long time. I usually find recipes online which is how I found this author's food blog in the first place, but this feels like one of those timeless cookbooks your parents had with the heavyweight pages and fantastic color photography. This is a chef who knows how to put together crowd-pleasing meals with a reasonable amount of prep time, and ingredients that should be easy to find anywhere. I'm already familiar with some of these recipes from her blog, and I assume there are some new ones in here as well. Her Peruvian Chicken with Green Sauce recipe is a foolproof masterpiece that has become one of my favorite things to cook. Her website has become one of my go-to places for meal ideas, which is really saying something considering how saturated the web is with recipes. The same can probably be said for cookbooks too, but I have a feeling this will end up being one of the few on my shelf that I reach for on a regular basis. I'll be buying a couple more copies as gifts and would recommend this cookbook to anyone, regardless of cooking skill level.-DS
Once Upon a Chef has been my go to for recipes (Jenn’s blog). Every single recipe has been excellent. I use her when I’m plannig a dinner party, taking food to people in need, what-to-do-for dinner nights, and special occasions. Most are simple and a few are a step up. Making her amazing chicken Marsala made me feel like I had reached the next level in my cooking. Try out some of her recipes on her blog and you will naturally want to get her book. I love that I can pick whatever she’s got with the confidence it’ll turn out well.-jUST mE
Super nice cookbook with photos and useful tips to give confidence to the home cook. The book has a dish for every occasion and a friendly tone that makes you believe you can do it. Also extremely helpful is that measurements are written for both cups and grams, so I don't have to spend 20 minutes converting everything before starting or making the shopping list. oday I made the pan-seared halibut, although I substituted another white fish. It was so easy and delicious, and we don't even like fish much. My tomatoes were out of season and the fish and basil were frozen instead of fresh, and it was still very tasty. The tomato/garlic sauce took 5 minutes to make, and my husband said "you could put that sauce on rocks and they would taste good." Best of all, it was perfectly seasoned without having to taste and add more salt and pepper and hope that I then didn't overdo it.-Rachel T.S
