Who wouldn't want to be all three of those? But really, with so many recipes available free online, a cookbook has to be pretty special these days to be worthwhile. Not only is this one full of practical advice for everyone from the total beginner to the very advanced baker, it's an absolute joy to read. It's beautiful and fun, full of clever tips, funny asides, sweet stories and practical ideas. It's like getting to hang out in a professional baker's super-cool, colorful kitchen and chat all day! I'm so glad I bought it and it's definitely filling up spots on my gift list for others too. -Sarah
This is a fantastic cookbook. Not only for the recipes, but you can use it to create your own version of any type of cake, as Erin makes tables of perfect pairings of flavor. Plus, she simplifies quite a few steps that are often made more complicated than they need to be. If you are a beginner, don't be intimidated by the complexity of the cakes on the cover. You will learn SO MUCH by reading the book and in no time will be pushing your boundaries in baking. One small criticism which is probably editorial mistake - she calls macarons (French concoction made with a meringue-almond base) macaroons, several times in one of the chapters. That is one of my pet peeves, and I was a bit shocked that they would not catch this mistake. I hope they fix it in a later version...--S. Newton
I was a HUGE fan of Erin before this cake and was thrilled to see it arrive on my doorstep. The photos are gorgeous, the instructions clear, and there is tons of information about baking. I'm thinking of starting at the beginning and baking my way through the whole book. This is a great book for the beginner and advanced baker too. Bravo Erin and keep baking and writing.!!!! --Sharon N.
