Tailgreat: How to Crush It at Tailgating

Tailgreat: How to Crush It at Tailgating

Get back all the flavors and energy of game day on account that should not be taken lightly of closely following shrewdness from James Beard Award champ and Top Chef Masters candidate John Currence.

John Currence is perhaps the most celebrated and cherished cooks in America, but on the other hand he's a closely following enthusiast. For quite a long time he has arranged fans to go into fight before football match-ups on his home turf in Oxford, Mississippi, providing them with dishes that go path past the normal burgers and sausages. In Tailgreat he presents his defense that closely following food can be far beyond miserable locally acquired plunges and chips, as we commend the soul of meeting up with loved ones to help a typical reason: our group. The dishes are flavor-pressed hits like Korean BBQ Wings, Grilled Corn Guacamole, Sweet Mustard Pulled Pork, and NOLA Roast Beef Po'Boy Bites. With these plans you will most likely lead your group, or if nothing else your next supper, to triumph.

About the Author
John Currence is the owner of City Grocery, Big Bad Breakfast, Bouré, and Snackbar in Oxford, Mississippi--which is also home of Ole Miss, one of the biggest football franchises in the NCAA. Currence is a James Beard Award winner and the author of Pickles, Pigs, and Whiskey and Big Bad Breakfast.
I dare you to read this cookbook and not be starving by the end of it. The recipes are mouthwatering and varied enough to please everyone. The author is a talented story teller as well as chef, and his introductions to eat recipe will transport you to different cities and countries. The recipes are all doable (except for the homemade hotdogs...nobody got time for that) but the ingredient lists tend to be cumbersome. It’s definitely elevated tailgating food, but you don’t have to make everything at once. Pick one or two and you’ll be the most popular person at your get together. Everything from snacks, to chili to sandwiches and dessert, there are so many great ideas. My only complaint is that I wish there were more pictures. I have a hard time imagining the recipes without photos and the white space was uninspiring. The full page photos are stunning, but I would be happy with smaller photos to be able to include more. Overall, a beautiful, inspired cookbook I plan on using for years to come. --Mildwestmom

If you are a fan of college football you'll like these recipes. If you entertain during college football you'll cook these recipes. If you are an SEC football fan you'll love these recipes. I bought this for a friend from Oxford MI who moved to my town just before the start of the season. Made their day as the author is also a multi-site restratuer in the south. Took pics of many of the meals and recipes before I wrapped the gift. Admittedly, this has a southern edge and there are so many great midwestern, mid-atlantic and cajun tailgate options not included here. Also, if you cook for smaller crowds at home you'll have to downsize and do the math. But I love this book. --Mike Adamson

This cookbook has the most beautiful pictures with recipes that are organized in an easy to find format. Filled with sports puns, the stories told in the book enhance the recipes like any southerner would appreciate. I already started a list to what I am making first. --Cristy Crawfood
