Susan is a wonderful author and really finds a way to make some of the more complex aspects of cooking approachable for the home chef. I love this book. As a 20-something cooking for one on a tight grocery budget, it’s great to have a few go-to recipes and ingredients to stock my fridge with. My personal favorite is the “It’s Been A Long Damn Day Wine From Your Glass Pan Sauce.” Simple and scrumptious, it always impresses my guests. Not to mention, Susan Volland’s writing is witty and warm — making you feel like you have your own personal cooking instructor/best friend. I highly recommend this book.-Russel 
Received a copy when I attending a live cooking demonstration involving some recipes from the book. Delicious, relatively simple, and not very time-consuming. I am a big meat fan and getting the sear done right is the difference between success and failure. Includes lots of ways to make delicious sauces from the fond - don't wipe your pan too soon!-Brian
