About the Author
Mandy lee founded her award-winning "angry food blog," Lady and Pups, in 2012 out of sheer frustration after moving from New York City to Beijing. She and her blog have been featured in numerous publications and sites, including Saveur, FoodandWine.com, CNN.com, Yahoo, Food52, and WashingtonPost.com. She currently lives in Hong Kong with her husband and pups.Mandy Lee's blog and this book and her SM postings - raw, honest, and utterly talented and ingenious. She is so honest that you can't help but fall in love with her writing and her raw emotions and her, and of course her dogs. She is so talented and so dedicated on working on her recipes that you can't help but to appreciate what she has done for you to find all the "Secrets" to improve your quality of cooking and eating. Of course the pictures are beautiful and divine, but read and do the recipes, you will thank her, even more. (I now officially thank her. I am making her Hainan Chicken Rice tonight, and I have no doubt Anthony Bourdain will want to eat this dish. RIP and I love you, Tony).-Jackie
This cookbook is simply sublime. The recipes are so original, exciting, and thoughtful, and the photography is equally stunning. Cover to cover, it is a work of art.
I was tired of cookbooks with underwhelming recipes that can often seem repetitive. I appreciate that this book is unique and filled with recipes that are challenging and push beyond the conventional kitchen. That said, this book would be great for a beginner cook as the recipes are so beautifully articulated! I wish I could give it more than five stars. -Aalliso
Unusual for a cookbook to be so honest, in your face (sometimes), but also fabulous, funny, witty, and full of amazing recipes. I want to make them all and have already made a few. Clear instructions with "don't you dare substitute" this ingredient comment sometimes. I really appreciate her humour and honesty about living in Beijing. The title says it all. -I. Miller
