About the Author
Jim started his culinary journey over 25 years ago after receiving his culinary arts degree from Blackhawk Technical College in Janesville, WI. As an aspiring chef in Lake Geneva, WI, Jim honed his skills at various resorts and country clubs such as Geneva National, where he planted an herb and edible flower garden containing over 40 varieties, which was used extensively in the restaurants menus. From there Jim started his own business as a freelance food stylist and recipe developer. Over the years, Jim has created hundreds of recipes for dozens of publishing companies and food companies. His work can be seen in every grocery store and has been in dozens of cookbooks, magazines and newspaper articles such as Taste of Home, SIFT, Light & Tasty, The Janesville Gazette and Milwaukee Journal. Jena Weller Carlin grew up on an organic dairy farm in rural Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in painting and minor in photography. During college, she met her ever-supportive husband, Brandon Carlin. They moved to Milwaukee where Jena started her photography career working for Taste of Home Magazine. Here, for three years, she nurtured her growing love of food photography.  There is something about capturing a still image and being able to smell it and feel its warmth. Food as a photography subject welds my urge for buying antique home goods and my creative nature for making imagery.  This is how Jena describes her specialty. With her son, Austin, and another baby Carlin on the way, Jena enjoys all the spoils associated with having a loving family and a successful career.

I loved this cookbook! The photography is beautiful to look at, but that is not all it has to offer! As someone that has an interest in cooking but by no means is an expert, the recipes look simple enough for me to handle! Cannot wait to try them all out!-Steph
This is a beautiful book, with wonderful recipes and so much more. I love the organized way herbs are presented for use in recipes, for healing qualities and for unique craft projects. The book is written as a loving tribute to the co-authors' mothers who passed on their own love of cooking, gardening and creating. Recipes are amazing --i.e. Rosemary Chicken Mac and Cheese--and the photography is gorgeous--every single page! From lemon balm hummus to tarragon, orange and ginger exfoliating scrub, this book is truly a great celebration of herbs you can buy at the store or grow in your yard. It would make a fabulous gift!-KathyT
What a positively remarkable book. Scanning the table of contents alone I knew I was in for a treat! Jim Rude really knows his stuff and has prepared and presented each subject with love, care and ironclad knowledge of his elements. I can't imagine any Chef, Cook, Foodie, Epicurean or even basic Food-Geek not benefiting from such a collection of art. No less impressive is the book's photography. Second to none in books of this ilk. As a professional photographer myself, not to mention food book collector, this one makes me drool! Bravo, Jim Rude, Brava, Photographer Jena Carlin.-Jay Filter
